In the coming months, Highland Heights citizens could potentially see a new nature trail for bikes and walking.
The trail would be located right outside the city building and go behind one of Northern Kentucky University’s residence halls, Callahan Hall.
The idea scratches the surface of a green space project that will be discussed at the next city council meeting later this month, and began with help from Duke Energy, City Engineer Frank Twehues and consultants.
As of now, gravel, wooden poles and higher tension metal poles sit at the current site. The city will have to consider and vote later on whether or not they will add their own funding to the project, according to Highland Heights Mayor Greg Meyers.
Meyers is excited about the potential new project and said he hopes it will make walking more accessible for both NKU students and Highland Heights citizens.
“I am mostly excited for the students to be able to walk back and forth. I am also excited for the citizens who like to walk and the people who like nature,” Meyers said.
